EURAF board

Bohdan, a professor at the Czech University of Life Sciences, has dedicated nearly two decades to researching and teaching about tropical and temperate agroforestry systems. As a former president of the Czech Association for Agroforestry (CSAL) and a practicing agroforestry farmer, he has been a pivotal member of the EURAF board since 2022. His vision for EURAF is to further foster it as the premier European organisation for agroforestry, actively engaged in advocacy, knowledge sharing, and expanding farmer-led collaborative networks.

Maureen, Manager of the Irish Agroforestry Forum, has a background in low-input and extensive farming and degrees in Agriculture and Environmental Science from Queen’s University Belfast. Her passion for sustainablefarming and agroforestry education is evident in her extensive career, which includes research, teaching, stakeholder engagement and running her own farm!   She is also passionate about communities, circular bioeconomy principles, slow food and has a particular interest in the production of beef and lamb from agroforestry systems. She supports the development of local supply chains, food and fodder security and protection of the environment. Maureen believes agroforestry will be one of the greatest tools available to farmers to help mitigate climate change and support low input farming.

Julia, a Project Officer at the German Agroforestry Association (DeFAF), has been passionate about #agroforestry since her student days. She believes it’s a vital tool for transforming land use and has gained valuable experience through her work in rural development, protected area management and agroforestry education with the DeFAF. Julia envisions EURAF as a powerful international advocate for farmers and their associations, promoting future-oriented agriculture through agroforestry.

Manuel has extensive experience in forestry and agroforestry research and development, working in diverse settings such as the Philippines, Laos, and Spain. His expertise encompasses reforestation and reclamation of degraded land through agroforestry practices, research on smallholder timber-based agroforestry systems, and providing technical support to farmers on establishing and managing agroforestry projects in both tropical and Mediterranean climates.

Anders is a versatile agroforestry expert, combining hands-on nutcrop farming with teaching nutgrowing at Holma Folkhögskola. He also leads the Swedish side of the UNHIDE Agroforestry project (ERASMUS+) and chairs Agroforestry Sweden. Anders envisions and promotes agroforestry as sustainable, nature-based production systems that operate independently of industrial inputs. This approach ensures continuous food production with resilience against ecological, climatic, social, economic, and political challenges.

Stéphane is a passionate advocate of agroforestry with over 15 years of experience. He has spearheaded significant tree and hedge planting initiatives in his province in Belgium, resulting in the establishment of more than 100,000 tall fruit trees and 200 kilometers of hedges. A cattle breeder himself, Stéphane practices agroforestry and silvopastoralism on his own farm. His deep connection to nature is evident in his work as a naturalist and his involvement with various nature conservation associations.
