Communication and advocacy internship: Erasmus + trainee / CIP Belgian Contract
Position: Communication and advocacy internship
Organization: European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF)
Location: Brussels
Start Date: August 2024
About EURAF:
The European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF) aims at promoting the use of trees on farms as well as any kind of silvopastoralism throughout the different environmental regions of Europe. EURAF’s Mission is to “ensure that there is at least 10% tree crown cover on grassland and cropland in all European regions by 2040” – and this will be achieved by supporting efforts to develop awareness, education, research, policy-making and investments which foster the use of trees on farms (read more in our ‘Brno Agroforestry Declaration’).
With offices in Montpellier (HQ) and Brussels (EU office), EURAF has more than 800 members and a network of 28 Affiliated Entities in 20 EU countries and 5 outside the EU. We work closely with European institutions, policymakers, and agroforestry stakeholders to drive positive change in the agroforestry sector.
Position Overview:
EURAF is seeking a passionate and skilled ‘Communication and advocacy assistant’ (6-month internship position) with a strong interest in agroforestry. As a Communication and advocacy assistant, you will be crucial in supporting EURAF’s efforts on social media platforms, developing quarterly newsletters and engaging with relevant stakeholders. The activities the selected candidate will work on may also be adapted depending on the background of the candidate (e.g. support on fundraising activities, involvement in EU project proposal writing, etc).
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an energetic professional to make a meaningful impact on the future of agroforestry in Europe. Being recruited for this position does not imply that EURAF would be in a position to offer an employment contract (yet, this may depend on whether funding would be made available).
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Secretary-General of EURAF, who reports to the Board and Executive Committee of the Federation. The activities will be conducted from the office of EURAF in Brussels.
This internship may be conducted in the context of the ‘Erasmus + internship programme’ framework. Should that not be possible, EURAF may offer a short-term (up to 6 months) internship contract under Belgian legislation (convention d’immersion professionnelle).
Key Responsibilities:
- Support EURAF’s activities on social media platforms.
- Collect input and draft articles for the EURAF quarterly newsletter and the website.
- Website management.
- Engage with EURAF members to amplify the visibility of our federation’s communication materials/initiatives.
- Other tasks may be planned on a case-by-case basis (e.g. participation in meetings/conferences, fundraising activities, etc.).
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in agroforestry, forestry, agriculture, or a related field. Students with a non-scientific background are also encouraged to apply (e.g. background in Communication, Media studies, Business and Administration). Yet, note that to be eligible for Erasmus + funds, the candidate should still be a student (ideally a Master’s or PhD).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
Optional:
- Strong knowledge of agroforestry and a passion for its promotion.
- Proven experience in fundraising and grant writing, particularly in the non-profit or environmental sector.
What We Offer:
- A meaningful role within a dynamic team – and a network of around 800 agroforestry enthusiasts!
- Opportunity to shape the future of agroforestry in Europe.
- Professional development and networking opportunities during the Erasmus training period
